Periodontics

Treat bleeding, swollen or receding gums: deep cleaning, flap surgery and gingival therapy.

About periodontics

Healthy gums are the foundation of healthy teeth, and gum disease is one of the main reasons adults lose teeth. The good news: when it's caught early it's very treatable. We treat gum problems from simple inflammation to advanced disease, and teach you how to keep them under control for good.

What's included

The procedures we offer within periodontics, and what each one does for you.

  • Gum Disease Treatment

Treatment to control gum infection and inflammation: from early gingivitis to advanced periodontitis.

  • Deep Cleaning

Thorough cleaning below the gum line (scaling and root planing) to remove the deposits that cause gum disease.

  • Flap Surgery

When deep pockets remain, a small gum flap is lifted so the roots can be cleaned thoroughly and pocket depth reduced.

  • Gingival Therapy

Targeted treatment for unhealthy gum tissue, including inflammation and overgrowth, to restore gum health.

Is this right for you?

Consider a visit if any of these sound familiar:

  • Bleeding when you brush or floss
  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Gums pulling away from teeth, or teeth that feel loose

What to expect

Every treatment starts with a conversation and a clear plan. Here's how it usually goes.

  1. 1

    Gum assessment

We measure the depth of the pockets around each tooth and check for bone loss on X-rays.

  2. 2

    Deep cleaning

Deposits are removed above and below the gum line, often over one or two visits.

  3. 3

    Re-evaluation

We check how your gums have responded and whether further treatment is needed.

  4. 4

    Maintenance

Regular periodontal maintenance visits keep the disease from coming back.

Questions about periodontics

What are the signs of gum disease?
Bleeding when brushing, red or swollen gums, persistent bad breath, gums pulling away from the teeth and loose teeth. Gum disease is often painless in its early stages, so don't wait for pain.
Can gum disease be cured?
Early gum inflammation (gingivitis) is reversible with professional cleaning and good home care. Advanced gum disease (periodontitis) can't be completely cured, but it can be controlled with treatment and regular maintenance.
Is gum disease linked to other health problems?
Research suggests links between gum disease and conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Treating gum disease supports your overall health, not just your mouth.
